Emerging Leaders of Excellence Programme (ELEP)

“A highly relevant and very enjoyable programme.”

“An excellent programme, with brilliant and knowledgeable trainers. The most valuable course I have ever been on!”

ELEP is an exciting opportunity to equip emerging leaders for the challenges and opportunities of IND’s modern management environment. It is the first tier in our suite of challenging leadership development programmes delivered in partnership with Ashridge Management College and Lane 4 Performance Coaching Consultancy.

Programme profile

The programme has two modules. Each one lasts three days and is completed off-site in a location convenient to the main IND estates. Sessions include:

  • Appreciating the IND leadership challenge;
  • Understanding behaviour;
  • Creating a performance environment;
  • Coaching for performance; and
  • Building high performance teams

The programme centres on a set of leadership capabilities which build on, and are complementary to, our competence frameworks. You will assess yourself and get 180º/360º feedback against these leadership capabilities as part of the programme.

Participant profile

You are likely to be a leader of some kind within IND, although this isn’t necessarily the case, and typically within the grade range EO/IO to SEO/HMI and equivalent. You will need to demonstrate in your application a clear and coherent rationale for attending the programme, which will be business focused.

You should also be very committed to maximising the impact of the programme (which is a significant investment for IND) on your own performance and that of your team and work area. In preparing for the programme, you should, in consultation with your manager, agree your learning objectives (which should have implications at a team or tactical level as well as a personal one) and consider not just how you will apply what you learn back in the workplace, but how you will evaluate and review your achievements following the event.

Commitment profile
  • Support of your line manager and director;
  • Attendance at two, three day, off-site workshops;
  • Participation in an intra module Action Learning Set; and
  • Participation in the on-going evaluation and review of the programme.
